Coding – answer choices

For question 1, White = 1, 2 = American Indian, 3 = Black or African American, 4 = Asian, 5 = Middle Eastern, 6 = Native Hawaiian, 7 = other

Those who select more than one race can be coded as 8 = multiracial

For question 2, 1 = not Hispanic, 2 = Hispanic

Race and Hispanicity can be treated separately or these items can be combined, such as Hispanic as one attribute and then separate attributes for non-Hispanic white, non-Hispanic American Indian and so on.
